Duelling League Spring Term 2012

The Duelling League is ready to start. It is a league held all-term long. There are several groups of four contestants. In one group, the contestants will face each other so that in the end every player would played against every other player once (which means that in the Group Stage every member will have three matches). We will start with one group of four contestants, and every time that four new members register for the Duelling League, a new group will be formed with those four contestants, so don't hesitate to register even if the League has already started.

A Duelling Club Match consists of two duels, which means that the result of a match can be 2:0 for one of the members or 1:1. The winner of a match receives three points (duelling club points and not House points), whereas the loser doesn't get any. If there is a draw, each player receives one point. At the end of the Group Stage, the two players with the highest number of points in every group will advance to the Knockout Stage. Depending on the number of groups, we will hold Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, ... (for example, if we have two groups, we will directly proceed from the Group Stage to Semi Finals), every first placed contestant in one group facing one of the second placed contestants in another group.

In the Knockout Stage, there will be two legs for every round (Quarter Finals, Semi Finals), which means that two matches are played between the two players. After the two legs, the aggregate score determines the winner, who proceeds to the next round whereas the loser is eliminated. If it is tied, we proceed to a penalty shootout (each player is asked five questions and the winner is the one who has the most correct answers). However, this does not apply for the Final, in which only one match is played (if it is tied, we also have a penalty shoot-out).

The winner of the Final is proclaimed Duelling Club Champion, and receives 100 galleons, along with 100 House points. The runner-up earns 50 galleons and 50 House points, and the third 25 galleons and 25 House points (there will e a match between the contestants who lost in Semi-Finals to determine who is third). On this page, you will find all sorts of information considering the League, such as fixtures or standings. If you want to take part in it, please first read the Duelling Guide and then register for the League.

In addition to the awards received for having a successful campaign in the league, there are some bonus awards available (they are received each time you achieve the specific goal):

  • Duelling Veteran: participate in 10 Duelling Matches (reward: 25 galleons)
  • Duelling Master: win 7 Duelling Matches (reward: 25 galleons)
  • Quick Reflexes: win a perfect duel (without taking any damage to your life points) (reward: 10 galleons)

Duelling League Contestants:

Richard Adlard
Keith Parker
William Macgonagall
Eliza Parkinson
Anna Garland

Even after the League has started, new members are still able to join. To do so, just register for the Duelling Club and then for the Duelling League.

The duels will be held mostly on weekends, to make sure that everyone can participate. We will suggest a time for the match, but if it doesn't suit you, please contact me to tell me a time that does. However, if you agree to a time but don't show up without informing me in advance, your opponent is declared the winner of the match. Furthermore, if you disappear in the middle of a match, you have 15 minutes to come back, or else your opponent is declared the winner. All times in the fixtures are CET (Central European Time), so you have to convert them to your time zone to get them in your local time. The average time of a match shouldn't exceed 30 minutes so it shouldn't not be difficult for you to find time for it.
